ABOUT ITL FOR FACULTY FOR TAs FOR STUDENTS FOR REGIONALS ITL UNITS

Getting Started with CPS from eInstruction

CPS versions 4 and 5 are not compatible with Macintosh's "Leopard" operating system.

There are several steps that you, as an instructor, must do before using CPS (Classroom Performance System) in your classroom.

  • Contact eInstruction to request your test kit, you should provide the Institution name, your class info and your departments UPS shipping info (allow 10-12 business days).

As part of the University's adoption process, eInstruction has agreed to provide each instructor with a CPS test kit. Each test kit includes one response pad, one CPS receiver, a copy of the latest version of their software and one enrollment code. eInstruction is currently providing version 5 of the CPS software to instructors wishing to use the system. An overview of the process is available in PDF format.
  • Contact the Institute for Teaching and Learning in order to ensure that a receiver is installed in the Hi-tech classroom you will be using.
    • * Please note that version 4 of the CPS software is installed on each of the classroom computers, this version of the software can be obtained from ITL. All of the classroom computers will updated over the winter break.
  • Contact the Co-op, before the beginning of the semester you wish to use the system, and place an order for the appropriate number of student response pads, based on your class' anticipated enrollment.
    • * Please note that in addition to the purchase price of $20, students must pay an activation fee of $13 per class or may opt to pay a $39 lifetime activation fee.
  • Install the software on your computer and register your response pad through HuskyCt. eInstruction has provided a PDF document to assist faculty and students with the process of registering a response pad (follow the directions for WebCT to integrate with HuskyCT).

eInstruction offers excellent technical support and training for instructors and students alike through their website and call line (888-707-6819).

Campus support will be provided through several departments within the Institute for Teaching and Learning.  The Instructional Resource Center (IRC) and the Instructional Design and Development department (IDD) will provide pedagogical and technical support for faculty implementing CPS in the classroom.

The Learning Resource Center (LRC) will support student registration and technical questions.
