The University of Connecticut community was faced with a high frequency of problems accessing and using the current PeopleSoft Student Administration System due to the lack of an intuitive user interface, a disconnect between PeopleSoft and UConn terminology, and limited information available through the existing Help. IDFD created a context-sensitive Help system that is also interactive and searchable. The new help system addresses multiple learning styles, allowing users to seek out information in a variety of formats. In addition to instructions on completing various tasks within PeopleSoft, the Help contains a searchable list of Frequently Asked Questions with solutions and a glossary. |

Aztec course site |

IDD helped a professor from the Center for Latin American & Caribbean Studies to create a site for her class on the Aztecs. Primarily a repository for electronic information such as pictures, maps, and documents, the site was designed in close collaboration with the client. The layout and flow of the site highlighted key elements of the class syllabus. Many images on the site came from the ArtStor database. |

Vista (WebCT) sites |

Based on the objectives and components of each course we design, we create web pages that reside in the Vista (WebCT) shell for the course. We call these the "course portals". Though the sites have some similarities in terms of their overall design, each one has its own unique features, based on the course content. The web pages also serve as an informational resource for students. |

This is a series of modules that will be delivered online and used by students who would like to revise basic Math concepts. IDD is serving as a resource for Chuck Vinsonhaler, the Math professor in charge of this project, and some of his students. The initial framework was developed by IDD and the students will take over the tasks of creating and updating the modules. |

Iron Deficiency Virtual Laboratory |

What do you do when you can no longer perform laboratory tests that are helpful to students' understanding of scientific concepts? In this case, we used Macromedia Flash to develop a virtual laboratory where students can get some "hands on" experience. Initiated by Dick Clark and Lori Smolin of the Nutritional Science Department, staff at IDD served as pedagogical and technical consultants and developers. |

When Oskar Harmon came to IDD for a total course redesign, he had ideas for exercises that would enforce some of the economic concepts he introduced his students to. IDD worked through these exercises with him and came up with activities designed with Flash. Most of the excercises required students to drag and drop objects on a graph and included immediate feedback for students. The link on the left is only one of many exercises developed. |

The idea of reactions between elements to form compounds can be a little difficult to grasp at times. Using Flash animation, IDD helped design visual representations of reactions for a Pharmacy class. The link on the left shows only a portion of this reaction. |
