Susana Helm |
Susana is a community psychologist with over a decade
experience in
participatory action research and community-based service learning
with
K-12, post-secondary, and adult education settings. Currently Susana
and the ITL staff are collaborating on the design of a first year Urban
and Community Studies course called "Exploring Your Community."
The
course emphasizes the concepts of individual and social well-being,
multiculturalism and diversity, and social justice through service
learning at the Hartford and Waterbury campuses starting spring 2006. |

Julia Launer |
Following the completion of degrees at Bachelor and Masters
level in Mathematics and Computer Science, Julia has had a long and
successful career in education having taught in both disciplines at
Fitch High School, RPI, and the University of Connecticut. Latterly
her work at UConn has focused on course development, the use of relevant
technologies (particularly WebCT), and supporting the learning process
for both students and faculty. She is closely related to the Institute
(ITL) and her expertise is being further tapped currently at the Avery
Point regional campus. She is highly regarded as a superb instructor
and faculty mentor. |

Paula Leonard |
Paula has a high reputation as an excellent teacher in
English in the southwest of the state. In addition to her activities
in secondary-level teaching, she has been an instructor at Norwalk’s
Community College and State Technical College for 11 years. She has
spent 5 years at the University of Connecticut at Stamford and recently,
together with staff from the Instructional Design & Development
unit, has been involved in course design and the use of WebCT in the
teaching of English. Currently, at Stamford,
she is supporting the
W-Center for students
and providing valuable advice to her faculty colleagues. |

John Long |
John teaches courses in Drama and Film at the Torrington regional campus. Before entering higher education he combined technology
and the arts when working as a technical writer and technology trainer
for corporations while also writing and directing theatre in New York
City. He is the Producer, Writer and Director of the video Pursuit
of Precision, which has been broadcast on Connecticut
Public Television and was awarded a 2004 Gold Aurora Award for Historical Documentary.
He will be working with the Institute on course design for introductory
courses as well as learning new technologies for education in order
to support faculty and students at the Torrington campus. |
